‘Please Jao’: Miranda House Students Protest Outside Hostel Over Poor Food Quality, Turn Away DUSU Co-Secretary Deepika Jha; Clash With Former Secretary Aparajita - VIDEO

New Delhi: Students of Miranda House staged a protest on Wednesday night over what they described as a steady decline in the quality of food served in the college hostel, even as the administration rejected the claims and attributed the unrest to isolated complaints.

Videos from the campus, widely shared on social media, showed students gathering outside the hostel premises, banging plates and raising slogans. Many alleged that the food being served had become “substandard” in recent weeks, with some linking the issue to an ongoing LPG supply problem.

The All India Students’ Association (AISA), which extended support to the protest, claimed that residents were being forced to rely on “dry bread and inadequate meals.” In a statement, the student body said, “Nutritious food is a right, not a luxury,” backing the students’ demands for immediate intervention.

The situation briefly escalated when DUSU co-secretary Deepika Jha arrived at the hostel during the protest but was asked to leave by the students. In one of the videos, protesters can be heard telling her, “Nahi chahiye, nahi chahiye, jao aap please jao,” indicating resistance to outside political involvement.

During the same protest, DUSU Secretary Aparajita Thakur was seen in a heated exchange with protesting students outside the hostel gate, further highlighting tensions on the ground. In the video it can be seen she goes hand in hand push fight with the protestor.

However, the college administration maintained that the protest was not linked to any gas shortage. A college official said the issue stemmed from complaints about excessive chilli in the food and insisted that meals are prepared daily keeping student preferences in mind.

While the administration has denied any systemic problem, students continue to demand consistent quality and transparency in hostel food services.
