Maharashtra CET Cell Extends LLB Option Form Deadline After HC Order; 78 Law Colleges Added

Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has revised the admission schedule for three-year and five-year LLB courses after the Bombay High Court directed authorities to extend the option form deadline, allowing candidates to revise their college preferences following the addition of newly approved law colleges.

BCI Approval To GLC Mumbai, Other Colleges Prompts Schedule Revision

The revision comes after the Bar Council of India (BCI) granted approval to Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai, along with several other law colleges that were not included in the initial admission list. The late approvals had triggered uncertainty among thousands of law aspirants, prompting petitions before the High Court seeking additional time to exercise their options.

Following the court's directions, candidates applying for the three-year LLB programme can now submit or modify their option forms until August 9. The deadline for the five-year LLB programme has also been extended, giving students another opportunity to include newly approved institutions in their preference list.

78 Law Colleges Added, 3,600 More Seats Available

The CET Cell has simultaneously expanded the list of participating institutions. Since the admission process began on August 5, a total of 78 law colleges have been added, creating 3,600 additional seats across both programmes. Students who had already filled their option forms can log in to the CAP portal and revise their preferences before the extended deadline.

As per the revised schedule, seat allotment for the three-year LLB programme will be announced on August 12, while allotment for the five-year course will be released on August 13. Candidates must report to their allotted colleges for document verification and admission confirmation between August 13 and 18 for the three-year course and August 14 and 19 for the five-year course, excluding Independence Day on August 15.

The increase in participating colleges has significantly expanded the intake. The three-year LLB programme now has 134 colleges with 12,355 seats, while the five-year programme has grown to 93 colleges with 7,305 seats. The CET Cell has indicated that additional colleges may still be included in the admission process and has advised aspirants to regularly check the official portal for updates.
