Bihar Mid-Day Meal Shock: Worms Found In Food Served At 75 Schools, Students Refuse To Eat

Students refused to eat and discarded the food after spotting worms in soybean curry and rice. The education department has ordered an investigation and warned of strict action against the meal supplier if negligence is established.

A major food safety concern was reported in Bihar’s Arwal district after worms were found in meals served to students across 75 schools on Tuesday, triggering anger among children and raising questions over the quality of mid-day meals provided at government institutions.
Students refused to eat the food after noticing worms and discarded their plates. Videos from the schools showed children lining up to throw the contaminated meals into dustbins.

Another video showed worms in the soybean curry served to students. Children were seen pointing them out while sitting down for lunch. Reports also claimed that worms were found in the rice as well.
The mid-day meal supply across Arwal was being managed by the Royal Manav Mitra Seva Samiti. On Tuesday, the agency had supplied rice along with soybean and potato curry to the schools.
The incident prompted concern within Bihar’s education department, following which the district education officer ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
Arwal education officer Asgar Hussain said strict action would be taken against the agency under the applicable rules if the probe establishes negligence or any other fault.
"There will be no compromise regarding the health of children," he said.
