Unique wedding in Indore, bride-groom tie the knot under Jivan Vidya marriage method

The couple took written oath as part of the system before family-society

While underlining utmost faith in family and society system, a couple tied the knot under unique Jivan Vidya Vivah Paddhati in Indore on Friday, in perhaps first such event in Madhya Pradesh.

Contrary to traditional marriage, the wedding in the system has no phere or other customs. Instead, the couple is seated with each other and is asked about consent for the marriage. The society (gathering) is also asked for its consent for the marriage so as families of the bride and groom.

Suramya Pathak, a doctor by profession tied the knot with Mayank Kumar under this unique marriage system formulated long back by a saint Baba Nagraj who used to live in Amakantak (Anuppur). Now the sect has thousands of followers including the families of bride and the groom, a passout from IIT Kanpur who works for an MNC in Bengaluru.

Leading personalities including Rajeev Singhal, director IIIT - Hyderabad, senior scribe Devdutt Dubey, Prof Asha Shukla, former VC of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University of Social Sciences, Mhow and others graced the event.

Prof Shukla who attended the entire event with husband RD Shukla, told FPJ over phone that that the couple after receiving consent from the family and society is made to take a written pledge where they repose faith in family and society system. They exchanged garlands and were greeted by near and dear ones. Senior members of the sect solemnize the wedding.

Earlier the society members ask questions from the couple about importance of marriage, family and society and also offer them valuable advice, said Prof Shukla adding the ritual follows by a customary marriage in night for gaining social acceptance.

Bride’s father, Surendra Pathak, a former Assistant Professor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi University, is devoted to propagate this Jivan Vidya Paddhati evam Madhyasth Darshan Sah Astitv Vaad. “We married our kids with this method so that they lead a better life and work for humanitarian values.” We wanted our kids to understand family and social values as younger generation is leading life in solitude, said bride’s mother Suneeta Pathak who had pursued a research work on women issues in the past.

To add, the sect has thousands of members and organize event regularly for deliberating on education system, bolstering family system, making youths value family system, life values and so on.
