Katni (Madhya Pradesh): An 8-month-old girl was burnt alive when her elder sister accidentally dropped a burning matchstick near the cot in Katni on Monday.
According to information, the mother placed the cot in the sun, and it quickly caught fire.
The deceased was identified as Sonia, daughter of Raju Kushwaha, resident of Bandha-Imlaj village of Katni district.
The Incident
Sonia's mother had massaged her on Monday morning and then put her into a cot to bask in the sun. Following that, she went inside her house for daily chores and Sonia's father Raju went to work. Meanwhile, Sonia's siblings were playing near her.
While playing, Sonia's 6-year-old elder sister and 2-year-old brother picked up the matchbox kept near the stove and lit one of the matchsticks. Unknowingly, they threw the matchstick on the straw kept nearby and it caught fire immediately.
The fire then reached the cot and engulfed Sonia. When Sonia cried, her parents rushed to her and tried to save her but the fire was so fierce that they couldn't save her. Meanwhile, Raju's hands also got burnt while he was trying to extinguish the fire.
Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot.
