Prostate Cancer Diagnosis Through Urine Test In AIIMS Bhopal
The study, titled, Using PCA3 to Diagnose Different Stages of Prostate Cancer:

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Prostate cancer diagnosis is done through urine test in AIIMS. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men globally and ranks sixth in India.
According to AIIMS, doctors rely on Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test for screening. However, PSA levels can also rise due to non-cancerous conditions such as infections or prostate enlargement, often leading to unnecessary biopsies and causing stress to patients.
To address the issue, the study at AIIMS Bhopal is evaluating a more specific test known as Prostate Cancer Antigen 3 (PCA3). Unlike PSA, PCA3 is highly specific to prostate cancer and can be detected through a urine test, making it a non- invasive and potentially more reliable screening method. Research suggests that PCA3 can help reduce unnecessary biopsies and provide better insights into the severity of cancer. A Central India-Based Pilot Study, is being led by Dr Debprosit Karmakar under the guidance of Dr Sukhes Mukherjee from the department of biochemistry and Dr Ketan Mehra from urology.
