Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 30-year-old married woman has accused her live-in partner of rape, following which the Jahangirabad police have registered an FIR against the accused Sharif Qureshi, police said here on Sunday.
According to police, the accused had formed friendship with woman’s husband and used to visit their home frequently. In May 2022, taking advantage of the husband’s absence, the accused allegedly forced himself on the woman at her residence in Jahangirabad. He then convinced her to leave her husband and took her to live with him in a rented room in Gautam Nagar.
The woman stated that over the past two-and-a-half years, the accused repeatedly raped her and physically assaulted her whenever she brought up the topic of marriage. He also allegedly threatened to kill her.
Fed up with abuse, the woman filed a complaint. Initially, Gautam Nagar police registered a zero FIR on Saturday after verifying her complaint. The case diary was transferred to Jahangirabad police on Sunday, where a formal FIR was registered. Police station incharge Ashutosh Upadhyay confirmed the case and said efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
