Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The whispers in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) about the election to the party’s state unit president have become louder on the political stage after the organisation has declared the names of all the 62 district presidents.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is returning from his Japan trip on Saturday, and Delhi is going to polls on February 5.

According to sources in the BJP, legislator from Betul Hemant Khandelwal is ahead of others in the race for the post of the party’s state unit president. He enjoys the support of the RSS, Yadav and other BJP leaders. The father of Khandelwal, Vijay Khandelwal, was a leader of the BJP.

Because of his low profile and RSS background, the party is gradually arriving at a consensus on Khandelwal’s name for the post.

The present state president of the party VD Sharma has completed five years in office, so his getting another chance is thin. Sharma was made the party’s state president, because he had the Sangh’s support.

Against this backdrop, the Sangh will have its voice in the selection of a candidate for the state president. Khandelwal has become the first choice of the Sangh. Besides Khandelwal, the names of former minister Lal Singh Arya, Narottam Mishra, Arvind Bhadoria and MP Gajendra Patel are doing the rounds for the post.
