Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A property dealer was duped of Rs 18.5 lakh by cyber fraudsters who lured him with promises of high returns through share trading.
According to reports, victim Lalit Namdev, a resident of Chanakyapuri and a property dealer by profession, also used to invest in the stock market. In January, he came across a mobile application on social media that claimed to offer good profits through share trading. He contacted the number provided on the app.
A woman received the call and convinced him that he could earn massive returns by investing through their platform, which would charge a commission.
Trusting her claims, Lalit began investing money. Over time, the app showed that his investment had grown to nearly Rs 50 lakh. However, when he attempted to withdraw the amount, the fraudsters demanded an additional 25% of the total amount as a processing fee. By then, Lalit had already deposited around Rs 18.55 lakh.
