Indore/Pithampur (Madhya Pradesh): The first trial incineration of 10 tonnes of waste of the Bhopal-based defunct factory of Union Carbide Corporation (UCC) was completed on Monday. The Pollution Control Board recorded the emission of gases during the incineration and the report will be presented to the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
However, the air quality in the city as well as Pithampur remained normal, informed divisional commissioner Deepak Singh. To note, the incineration began on Friday and on the maiden day, Singh along with IG Anurag was present on the premises of Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd to create confidence among the residents of Pithampur.
Singh said that the process of the first trial run of combustion of 10 tonnes waste was completed at Ramky plant on Monday. The Pollution Control Board monitored the entire process and recorded the findings to compile a report. Everything was found as per the standard operating procedure and very soon, a report in this regard would be presented in the High Court. Thereafter, the next stage of incineration would be started.

However, Singh, a senior IAS officer, scotched all rumours about gases emitting from the incineration polluting the environment. The air quality of Indore and Pithampur areas remained normal, he said.
It may be pointed out that the incineration of the UCC waste is being carried out at Ramky plant under the strict monitoring of Central and state pollution control boards on the instruction of the MP high court. To dispel the doubts and fears of the residents of Pithampur and nearby areas, the Dhar district administration carried out an awareness drive before starting the incineration of the waste.
