Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): AIIMS Bhopal has achieved a milestone by successfully performing the first heart transplant in state. The heart was procured from a 61-year-old brain-dead patient at NSCB Medical College in Jabalpur and transplanted into a 53-year-old patient from Itarsi. Prof (Dr) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, explained the procedure to the media on Saturday.

“A dedicated team of c (CTVS) from AIIMS Bhopal departed from Bhopal at midnight to begin the organ harvesting process upon reaching Jabalpur. By 10:30 AM, the heart was successfully retrieved.

The organ was then airlifted from Jabalpur at 10:50 AM and reached Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Airport by noon. Thanks to a “green corridor” created by law enforcement and hospital administration, the heart was quickly transported to AIIMS Bhopal for the transplant”, he said. Dr.

Singh hailed the transplant as not only a medical achievement but also a tribute to the kindness of the donor’s family. He said, "This transplant marks a significant step in the state’s medical history and showcases the selflessness and generosity of those who gave the gift of life to another."
