Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Secretary Anurag Jain has said nearly 68% of homes in the state are getting water through taps.
Jain made the statement at a workshop on Jal Jeevan Mission in Good Governance School in Bhopal on Wednesday. The target to supply water through taps to each home will be over by next year, Jain said.
Supplying drinking water to each home is getting priority, Jain said. Villagers have to take care of the single village scheme, he said. He said the number of complaints about Jal Jeevan Mission had reduced.
Participation of women in the work is very important, so they should get priority in water-related work, Jain said.
Jal Sahelis (a group of women that works for water conservation) undertook Padyatras (marches) in Bundelkhand to raise awareness about the importance of water, he said.
The step was appreciable, and it should be carried out in every part of the state, Jain said. According to Jain, people’s cooperation is also necessary to preserve water. He said during his stint as the collector of Mandsaur, the administration, with the people’s cooperation, had constructed 670 ponds.
Principal Secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department, P Narhari, said the department gave operation and maintenance work under the single village scheme to women.
Nearly 85% of works of single villages are over, Narhari said.
