A day after Vijadashami, Hindus observe another special day where they keep a fast to seek blessings of Lord Vishnu. It is known as the Papankusha Ekadashi.

Papankusha Ekadashi is an auspicious day that falls during the Shulka Paksha of the Ashwin month. In 2023, the date for observing this Ekadashi is October 25.

Devotees offer prayers to Lord Padmanabha, one of the forms of Vishnu Bhagwan, to mark this day.

The Ekadashi Vrat Katha for this occasion is associated with the Vindyachal mountains and a hunter who once lived there.

Hunter Krodhana was instructed by a sage named Angira to observe Papankusha Ekadashi to make up for his past deeds and sins. It is said that the hunter was blessed by Lord Vishnu and His divine consort Ma Lakshmi and he was relieved of his evil deeds.

Since then, this Ekadashi is observed to attain Moksha after eliminating sinful activities.

It is suggested that one must visit a Lord Vishnu temple on this day or pray to Him at the altar by reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama.
