Rushed to a private hospital after she suffered chest pain, Tabassum breathed her last around 8.40 p.m. on Friday, informed her son Hoshang Govil.

She is survived by her son and other relatives.

Actor Arun Govil, famous for playing Ram in Ramanand Sagar's TV serial "Ramayan" is her brother-in-law.

She was married to Arun Govil’s elder brother Vijay Govil.

"Her funeral rites were also completed late last night itself," Hoshang said.

As a child artist, Tabassum was known as Baby Tabassum and starred in movies such as "Nargis", "Mera Suhaag", "Manjhdhar" and "Bari Behen" in the late 1940s.

She hosted the celebrity talk show "Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan" from 1972 to 1993 on Doordarshan.
