Colombo: Several international rights watchdogs on Tuesday wrote to the UN saying they were dissatisfied at Sri Lanka’s progress in tackling human rights violations as the country’s record in implementing its promises to the world body has not been according to expectations.

In an open letter to UN Rights Chief Zeid Raad Al Hussein, the New York based Human Rights Watch, International Commission of Jurists among others have expressed dissatisfaction on Sri Lanka’s rights record.
The letter was forwarded ahead of the UN rights chief’s oral update on Sri Lanka at the ongoing 32nd session of the UNHRC in Geneva.

“While the government’s assurances on progress have been plentiful, its performance on the ground has been mixed and not befitting expectations outlined in your report and in the resolution as well as those of victims and people on the ground,” the letter said.
