Bali : Chhota Rajan’s imminent deportation has left the security agencies in Indonesia in a tizzy: there are unconfirmed reports that the hit men of Chhota Shakeel, who still owes allegiance to Dawood Ibrahim, have sneaked into Indonesia to eliminate India’s prize ‘catch.’

In another interesting development, the security of Dawood Ibrahim has been scaled up in Pakistan: this is seen as a natural corollary of the arrest of his bete noire Chhota Rajan in Indonesia.  Special commandos of the Pakistan Army have been deployed at Dawood’s residences in Karachi and Islamabad where he has been living for more than two decades after the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai, sources said quoting intelligence reports. It is feared that an external intelligence agency may try to flush out India’s most wanted man from his rat hole. Home Minister Rajnath Singh is on record having said that Dawood keeps changing his location in Pakistan. Singh had also told Parliament that the NDA government will leave no stone unturned to bring back Dawood. “Indian govern-ment is committed to bring back Dawood,” he had said.

Though most see the enhanced security for Dawood as a knee-jerk response from the Pakistan authorities, in an uncanny coincidence, similar fears were voiced about Hafiz Sayeed as well: his security too has been recently beefed up on fears of heightened external threat perception. Rajan is expected to be brought to India in a day or two after completion of his deportation formalities in Indonesia.  Earlier in the day, while being taken for questioning in Bali, Rajan told reporters that Dawood is in Pakistan under the protection of ISI. Rajan, once a close confidante-turned-rival of Dawood, has said that he is not afraid of Dawood. In 2000, there was an attempt on Rajan’s life when Dawood’s men tracked him down to a hotel in Bangkok but he managed a dramatic escape.  Experts are however skeptical whether Rajan can tell the Indian intelligence agencies anything new about Dawood. They feel that Rajan is merely playing the Dawood card to either turn an approver or strike some deal over the score of murder cases in which he is allegedly involved.
