Washington: Islamic State (IS) militants have claimed to have shot down a fighter jet and captured its pilot in Iraq, days after it captured a Jordanian pilot in Syria.

According to Fox News, the fighter jet was shot down in Iraqi capital of Baghdad.

However, it could not be confirmed if the jet was a part of the U.S. led coalition airstrike or Iraqi military.

The Iraqi army said that none of its warplanes were downed in that area.

The claim comes just days after the fighters announced that they had downed a coalition warplane and take Jordanian pilot hostage following an air raid near Raqqa province of Syria.

Jordanian authorities ahd also confirmed that the pilot had been captured but the U.S. military said that there was no evidence suggesting the terror group shot the aircraft.
