Cairo : The Indian Embassy in Cairo has hosted its annual ‘Iftar’ party to mark the holy month of Ramadan. The party yesterday was attended by a large number of Egyptian ministers, politicians, diplomats, intellectuals and well-known artists as well as ambassadors of other countries. “I bring with me the greetings and warm wishes of 1.2 billion Indians who are in love with the Egyptians. I think there is no better way to celebrate and commemorate this than to do Iftar together,” said India’s Ambassador to Cairo Sanjay Bhattacharyya, as he welcomed his distinguished guests.

Bhattacharyya last month presented his credentials to the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as the new Ambassador to Egypt. Ranu Bhattacharyya, the ambassador’s spouse, said that she is happy to be in Egypt as both countries are like two trees which have grown up at the same time. “I feel the bonds between both countries are very deep routed. Giving my interactions with people whether it is in the streets, diplomatic community or among the local people of Egypt, I feel that there is a very positive feeling and I think we can continue to build on,” she said. Egypt’s minister of International Cooperation Naglaa  Al-Ahwany, who were among the guests, said, there is a great cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

“We have great ties with India since the era of leaders Gamal Abdel Nasser and Jawaharlal Nehru. We are currently working on enhancing these ties ,” Al-Ahwany said. “The ministry gets a large number of grants from India every year for young Egyptians to be trained in different fields there,” the minister added. Among the attendees was the prominent Egyptian politician Yehya el Gamal, who said that he is looking forward to more cooperation between both countries. “India and Egypt have good relations but I’m looking forward to seeing both countries increasing their relations in all fields because we need more ties as India is a great and developed country especially in the fields of science and art,” el-Gamal said.
