UK’s tallest dog is over 7ft tall and still growing!

London : An 18-month-old pooch, who measures 7ft 4in standing on his hind legs, has become the ‘tallest dog in Britain’. The Great Dane, named Freddy, lives with owner Claire Stoneman, in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. The dog measures 41 inches from foot to shoulder blade and is said to be still growing. Although no official measurement has been made, Freddy is almost tall enough to take the current Guinness World Record from Zeus, a four-year-old Great Dane from Michigan, US, who is 44 inches tall from foot to shoulder blade. Freddy is already significantly larger than Britain’s current recorded biggest dog Samson, who is 6ft 6in when stood on his hind legs, ‘’ reported. Stoneman said she spends 4,000 pounds a year on standard dog food alone.

French woman found living with body of dead mother

London : In a shocking case, a reclusive 66-year-old French woman was found to be living alongside the badly decomposed body of her elderly mother, who had been missing and presumed dead for several years. Police officers discovered the corpse in the women’s shared home in France’s Brittany town of Mael-Carhaix on Friday after authorities expressed concern about the home’s state of neglect, according to the local paper La Telegramme. Police were called to intervene when neighbours complained of rubbish being left in the garden for ‘years’ and after bills had gone unpaid, The Independent reported. The police said that when they arrived the woman seemed ‘confused, delirious and incoherent’. They found further piles of garbage bags inside the home, and upstairs the mother’s corpse was sat in a chair ‘in a state of advanced decomposition’.

Chinese man fined for driving fake Mercedes

Beijing : A desperate Chinese man who ornamented his car to resemble a Mercedes-Benz in order to appear more successful has been fined for illegally modifying his vehicle, which was later seized by the police. The man, surnamed Zhuo, in Fuzhou, Fujian Province of China was pulled over by police for driving without license plates last week. Upon further inspection, the police found that the car was registered as a BYD, a budget Chinese sedan. It was later decorated with Mercedes emblems and hood ornament. Zhou admitted that he disguised his car as a Mercedes to seem more successful in the eyes of his relatives and friends. Police impounded Zhuo’s car and confiscated his license, ‘Globaltimes’ reported.                 He was additionally fined USD 280 for driving without plates and illegally modifying his vehicle.

Singapore riot: Indian gets 15 weeks in jail

Singapore : An Indian national, part of 25 compatriots charged with involvement in Singapore’s worst riot in 40 years, on Monday became the first person to be sentenced in the case – receiving 15 weeks in jail by a court here. 32-year-old Chinnappa Vijayaragunatha Poopathi, a construction worker, had pleaded guilty on Friday to an amended charge of failing to disperse during the Little India riot on December 8 under Section 151 of the Penal Code. It was believed to be the first time that Section 151 has been invoked in Singapore, Channel News Asia reported. He was initially charged with rioting, punishable by up to seven years in prison and caning.

Pak man throws acid on estranged wife, son

Lahore : A man allegedly threw acid on his estranged wife and one-year-old son after she refused to return to his house in the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province. Police said Sakina, the wife of Nasir, had shifted to her parents house a couple of months ago after having a quarrel with him over financial matters. Nasir, a labourer by profession, asked her to return but she refused.  “Nasir reached her in-laws’ house in Badami Bagh area on Sunday and persuaded her to return. When she refused he threw acid on her and their one-year-old child. Sakina’s brother and his wife also came under the attack and suffered burns,” police officer Imtiaz Sarwar said. The injured were shifted to the Mayo Hospital where the condition of the child is stated to be critical. Sarwar said Sakina had filed a divorce suit in a court a few days ago. The police have registered a case under anti- terrorism charges against Nasir and are raiding to arrest him.
