Washington : Indian-American Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said he would make a final decision on June 24 whether to seek Republican nomination to run for US president in 2016.
“For some time now, my wife Supriya and I have been thinking and praying about whether to run for the Presidency of our great nation. I’m pleased to say that we will announce our final decision on June 24th in New Orleans,” 43-year-old Jindal said in a statement.
Jindal, who formed an exploratory committee for this purpose last month and been touring across the nation, however did not say what his decision would be. But political analysts expect that he would most likely announce his presidential bid – making him the 10th Republican candidate to enter the race for 2016.
Jindal would be the first ever Indian-American to run for a presidential election. He has already created history by becoming the first ever Indian-American Governor of an American State. He was also the second ever Indian-American to be elected to the US House of Representatives.
“If I decide to announce on June 24th that I will seek the Republican nomination for President, my candidacy will be based on the idea that the American people are ready to try a dramatically different direction. We don’t need just small changes, we need a dramatically different path,” he said.
US President Barack Obama, he said, has started to redefine the American Dream, turning it into the European Nightmare. “Because of this, I believe our country is in serious trouble and that the hour is late for America,” Jindal said.
“Economic collapse is much closer to the door than people realize, our culture is decaying at a rapid rate, and our standing in a dangerous world is at an all-time low,” he said.
“However, the problems caused by seven years of weak leadership and mistakes in the Obama administration can be corrected. But they won’t be fixed by just sending Republicans to Congress. It will only be fixed by a President who is willing to make hard decisions and who has the ideas to change our country’s future,” Jindal said.
