Kobe: Eyeing a target of $5 trillion economy for India in the next five years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said here on Thursday that social sector would be a priority for his government along with development of infrastructure and digital sectors. He said Japan, which has been India's partner in progress over the last seven decades, will have a major role to play in building of a "new India". "It is said that the 'sky is the limit'. It was appropriate in a certain era. But now, the sky is not the limit," Modi said while addressing the Indian diaspora on the first day of his Japan visit, mainly to attend the G20 Summit.
Outlining his government's goals at the gathering of the Indian community in Kobe, PM Modi said: "Over the next five years, we want to make India a 5 trillion dollar economy... 50,000 start-ups in 5 years is the goal. Digital literacy is increasing and digital transactions are at a record high". Modi said the ties between India and Japan have become stronger from the time the two countries cooperated in making a car to coming together to manufacture bullet trains. Over the next two days, PM Modi will attend Japan-America-India trilateral and the Russia-India-China meet and a meeting of BRICS leaders. The trilateral meet is part of US efforts to bring together countries wary of China's increasing economic and military might in Asia. There, however, has been no efforts at any formal collaboration.
