There is a view in certain quarters that India has a better bowling side than batting. But for once, India fired on all cylinders, in both departments. This was amply demonstrated on Thursday with India putting up a brilliant bowling performance. The West Indies innings never quite took off. As one commentator said: They started badly, continued badly and ended badly. Shami led a ruthless attack to finish with 4-16. With that, India is close to sneaking into the knockout stage. The other nuggets of the Indian victory were Virat Kohli, who top scored with 72 and MS Dhoni with an unbeaten 56; there were useful cameos from KL Rahul (48) and Hardik Pandya (46). India now have 11 points while West Indies with 3 points from 7 matches are out of the semi-finals race.
Kohli 20,000 runs fastest
Virat Kohli on Thursday became the quickest batsman to complete 20,000 international runs, as he touched the milestone in his 417th inning. Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar and West Indies batsman Brian Lara jointly held the record previously and had completed the feat in their 453rd inning. Kolhi needed just 37 runs to complete his 20,000 international runs when he came out to bat against West Indies in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. Kohli is the third Indian batsmen to score more than 20,000 runs across all formats after Tendulkar (34,357) and Rahul Dravid (24,208).
