The Other Woman

Mark (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is married to Kate (Leslie Mann) but has an affair with attorney Carly (Cameron Diaz) and supermodel Amber. After finding out about each other, they join hands to take revenge on Mark, who is using Kate as the owner of the companies he defrauded, which would cause her to go to prison if discovered. So Carly as Kate’s attorney presents divorce papers and Kate reveals that she has returned the embezzled money to the companies, leaving Mark bankrupt. Mark’s business partner Nick fires Mark and gives Kate Mark’s job for her honesty. Carly falls in love with Kate’s brother Phil. The ‘women’s empowerment romantic comedy’ was a box office hit that earned over five times its production costs.

The Box

A couple – Norma (Cameron Diaz) and Arthur Lewis (James Marsden) – who are not financially well-off receive a wooden box with a red button. As per the message with the box, a disfigured ‘Mr Steward’ (Frank Langella) meets them that evening and tells that if the button is pushed he will give them $1 million and someone she does not know, somewhere in the world, will die. Norma pushes the button and after many weird occurrences, Arthur and Norma’s son Walter is kidnapped. Steward’s boxes are an experiment to judge greed in the human race. When elsewhere a woman pushes the button, Arthur shoots Norma. This psychological thriller based on the story ‘Button, Button’ by Richard Matheson is bound to keep one involved and intrigued till the very end.

What Happens in Vegas

Joy (Cameron Diaz) is dumped by her boyfriend and Jack (Ashton Kutcher) has just been fired from his job. Due to a computer error they end up getting the same hotel room, get drunk and get married. But in the morning they realise that it was a mistake and decide to divorce. The judge says they cannot divorce until they try to co-exist for six months and later if they still want a divorce each will be permitted to keep half the winnings that they had won at the casino. The two come up with cunning schemes to make the other seem uncommitted. Realising his mistake, Jack finds her and they decide to be together. The rom-com was a huge hit.

The Holiday

Iris (Kate Winslet) is repelled by her boyfriend’s infidelity and Amanda (Cameron Diaz) discovers that her boyfriend has been cheating on her. Iris and Amanda visit a home swap website so that they could get away for the holidays and agree to swap homes for two weeks. Iris loves Amanda’s Los Angeles home and Amanda meets Iris’ brother Graham (Jude Law) in Surrey. Iris falls for Miles (Jack Black) and Amanda fits in beautifully with Graham’s young daughters since his wife had died a few years ago. Iris and Miles celebrate the New Year with Amanda and Graham and his two daughters. The Christmas-themed romantic comedy was 12th highest-grossing film of that year. It has been praised for its visual aesthetic design and Diaz’s performance.

In Her Shoes

Sisters Maggie (Cameron Diaz) and Rose (Toni Collette) have nothing in common except their shoe size. Maggie is petty and needs alcohol and men for support while Rose a workaholic lawyer is protective of Maggie. Maggie sees cards with cash addressed to her and Rose from grandmother Ella (Shirley MacLaine), who feels guilty for never being there for Rose and Maggie. After working with a retirement community, Maggie becomes a better person and arranges Rose’s wedding to show Rose how much she loves her. The two sisters bond better with their grandmother and reconcile their differences. Based on Jennifer Weiner’s novel, the poignant film is an honest rendering of a sibling relationship and the relationship between two sisters and their grandmother.
