King Lear

What: Academy Award winner Sam Mendes returns to the National Theatre to direct Simon Russell Beale (Timon of Athens, Collaborators) in the title role of Shakespeare’s tragedy. An aged king decides to divide his kingdom between his three daughters, according to their eloquence in praising him. His favourite, Cordelia, says nothing and Lear’s world descends into chaos.

Karna – The Generous Warrior

What: This play is about Karna, one of the heroes of the epic Mahabharata. It traces his life and emphasises on the wrongdoings done unto him. Writer/Dir: Kulvinder Bakshish. Cast: Bijon Mondal, Mridul Sharma, Kulvinder Bakshish and Preeti Gupta. Ticket: Rs 200.

Hu Chandrakant Baxi

The play is based on the life of a prolific writer who passionately loved his readers his entire life. And the feeling was mutual. He wrote fiercely and forcefully without bothering about controversies. The play encapsulates his highly eventful life in a very dramatic manner. Mr. Bakshi was a master storyteller who wrote more than 200 books in varied genres. He was an extremely popular columnist too. His acidic and highly creative style of writing generated defining waves in both Gujarati literature and journalism. Tickets: Rs 400.
