A woman in China has been diagnosed with weird hearing-loss disease because of which she cannot hear voices of men and can only hear voices of female with higher frequency. The woman, Chen, lives in the Xiamen city of China.
Chen woke up one day to find that she was unable to hear voices of men. She was not able to hear the voice of her boyfriend. She contacted doctors and told them about her issue. She also claimed that he was able to hear the voice of the female doctor but unable to hear the voices of male patients present in the hospital.
Later, doctors identified that she is suffering from a rare hearing disease. Chen is suffering from reverse-slope hearing loss (RHSL), due to which she can only hear high frequencies. This is very rare hearing loss disease and affects one in nearly 13000 people with hearing problems. Doctors also claimed that stress may be the reason behind this condition of Chen.
Reverse-slope hearing loss is a rare ear disease in which the person cannot hear sounds of lower frequencies. The disease is caused by genetic-disorder. Some of the major sources of this hearing problem are Wolfram syndrome, Mondini dysplasia, and inheritance through a dominant gene.
