Books are the gateway to all knowledge known to the humankind. Books make us travel places from the comfort of our homes. Books are in a way some of the most precious things in our lives. Thus, disrespecting books is synonymous to disrespecting knowledge.
Disrespect, however, means different things in different cultures. For instance, in India, Hindus believe that stepping over books means insulting them, insulting Maa Saraswati, the god of knowledge. Muslims, too, see this action as an insult to books.
However, a tweet proves that maybe not all cultures see the said action as an insult. Recently, a Twitter user expressed their desire for a staircase made up of books.
The anonymous Twitter account made a tweet that reads, "girls don’t want boys girls want a book staircase."
Soon, the post went viral freaking out all Indians, who saw this as an absolute disregard for books.
Replying to the picture, one Twitter user wrote, "The whole desi community is currently horrified by the idea of books being under people's feet."
Another wrote, "Putting foot over and walking on books is not Indian culture, we worship anything and everything which gives us knowledge and helps us in moving forward in life, from man to machine to books to animals and birds or trees... We worship them."
Here's what people are saying. Have a look.
