A remarkable childbirth in Vietnam has captured widespread attention after a pregnant woman delivered her baby on the back of a motorcycle just seconds before reaching a hospital. The extraordinary incident, recorded on video, has spread rapidly across social media, with viewers praising the swift response of doctors, nurses, and bystanders who helped ensure the safety of both mother and child.
Labour progressed faster than expected
The incident occurred on August 3 at Phu Luong Hospital in Thailand's neighboring country of Vietnam, specifically in Thai Nguyen province. According to local reports, the 25-year-old expectant mother, who was approximately 32 weeks pregnant, suddenly developed intense abdominal pain at home.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, her husband immediately rushed her to the hospital on a motorcycle. However, the baby arrived sooner than anyone anticipated.
Before the couple could even enter the hospital grounds, the woman went into active labour and gave birth while still seated on the motorcycle.
Hospital staff rushed to assist
Footage circulating online shows the mother being supported by her husband as medical personnel quickly surrounded the couple outside the hospital entrance. Doctors and nurses immediately stepped in to provide emergency care.
Hospital staff discovered the premature newborn safely inside the mother's clothing, with the umbilical cord still attached. The medical team carefully transferred both mother and baby into the hospital, where the cord was cut under proper medical supervision before each received further treatment.
Thanks to the rapid response of the healthcare workers, both patients were stabilised within minutes.
Mother and baby recovering well
Doctors later confirmed that both the mother and her newborn are recovering in stable condition.
Medical officials also revealed that this was the woman's fourth pregnancy. She had previously been treated at the same hospital after experiencing a threatened miscarriage earlier in the pregnancy. Because her labour advanced exceptionally quickly, the family had little time to make arrangements before rushing to the hospital.
