American sprinter ShaβCarri Richardson could now miss the chance to participate in the Rio Olympics as reports claim that the 21-year-old athlete has allegedly failed a drug test.
Tyler Dragon, sports journalist at the Cincinnati Enquirer, informed on Twitter about the news. In a tweet, Dragon wrote, "According to a source, American sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson failed a drug test and could miss Olympics. The @JamaicaGleaner was first."
However, Richardson has not tested positive for steroids. She has tested positive for cannabis.
He further informed that the sprinter might get suspended during the 100m at the Olympics. However, she might get to run on the 4x100 relay.
After running a 10.86 final at the US Olympic Trials in late June, Richardson qualified for the 2020 games in the 100-meter dash. Last April, the 21-year-old from Dallas, Texas, established a personal best of 10.72 to become the sixth-fastest 100-meter runner in history.
Dragon's tweets have gone viral spreading the news pf Richardson's dope test far and wide.
While the news is sad, Twitterati's reactions are not. Support has been pouring in (in the form of memes) for the sprinter as most people believe that smoking cannabis should be considered normal. In fact, people in various countries have been asking to legalise cannabis.
Here's what people are saying. Have a look.
