In a bizarre crossover that we never really knew we needed or wanted, the worlds of Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus and Elon Musk appear to be colliding on Twitter. And as all good stories are wont to do, it began with a very different context and reason. You see, Elon Musk had recently been 'threatened' by an anonymous hackers group for his tendency to “destroy lives” with his tweets on cryptocurrencies.
For the past several years, Anonymous contended, that Musk had enjoyed an exceedingly favourable reputation because he had "tapped into the desire that many of us have to live in a world with electric cars and space exploration." The video had also gone on to dub Musk a narcissist who was "desperate for attention". While viral online, the clip has not been authenticated or traced back to anyone thus far.
On Monday, the Tesla and Space X CEO took a potshot at rather creatively named 'Anonymous', with a Hannah Montana meme. Taking to Twitter, Musk shared a screengrab of an individual in a Guy Fawkes mask, with a single line of text revealing that the well known Disney character "is actually Miley Cyrus". The image was captioned simply with two exclamation marks, and has so far been liked, shared or commented upon nearly 400 thousand times.
The singer was quick to respond, calling Musk out with faux indignation for being unable to keep things under wraps. "I told you that in confidence! You can build a rocket but can’t keep a damn secret?!?!" she quipped.
This is not the first time Musk has taken a swipe at his Anonymous nemesis. Multiple tweets deriding the group's hacking skills or dismissing threats have since followed.
"Don't kill what you hate, Save what you love", read one post soon after the release of the clip.
