Mumbai: With an increasing impetus to provide more convenience to commuters, Western Railways (WR) is making all possible efforts to increase the number of Foot Over Bridges (FOB) at stations to avoid over-crowding. The move is likely to bring down the instances of trespassing. WR has now commissioned 19 FOBs in the year 2018 and 4 additional FOBs will be commissioned by March 2019.
We have commissioned 30 new FOBs in the last four years and 64 more FOBs will be provided, of which 30 will be commissioned this year while 34 will be completed next year,” said the Chief Public Relations Officer of WR Ravinder Bhakar.
19 FOBs including the FOB built by Army was commissioned in the year 2018. Further, in order to ensure enhanced safety of bridges and to facilitate intensive and speedy inspections of all bridge structures, Carriage Repair Workshop, Lower Parel has turned out a specially modified Bridge inspection coach,” he added.
An indent of an eight-wheeler overhead inspection car has also been made to Dahod Workshop for the inspection of FOBs & ROBs. Various repair works have been carried on several FOBs for conducting strengthening and rehabilitation work mostly by undertaking blocks. Major rehabilitation has been carried out in Charni Road (South) MCGM FOB (Mahatma Gandhi FOB) by providing chequered plate replacing old precast slab & recasting of both east & west side staircase.
Similarly, the Bandra-Navapada MCGM FOB rehabilitation work was carried out by providing chequered plate replacing old slab and strengthening of a column of ramp & staircase including roof covering. The north side staircase of Charni Road (North) FOB on platform no.1 was rebuilt and opened for commuters on June 28, 2018 while the south side staircase of Charni Road (Middle) FOB on platform No. 4 was opened for commuters on December 29, 2018.
