Mumbai: In a crackdown on drug peddling in Mumbai, Amboli police arrested two persons and seized mephedrone (MD) drug worth `40 lakh. One of the accused, Imran Ansari, is a wanted drug peddler named in over 20 cases in suburban Mumbai.A team, led by inspector Daya Nayak of Amboli police received a tip-off about two persons coming near Veera Desai Road in Andheri (W) for a drug deal.
The sleuths laid a trap and intercepted two bikers on Sunday noon and found 1 kg Mephedrone. The accused duo—Imran Abdul Khalid Ansari (32) and Afzal Hussain Mumtaz Ali Ansari (38)—were carrying the drug worth `40 lakh to sell it to another peddler. A source said the arrest of Imran is significant, as he is one of the biggest drug dealers in Bandra. A Unicorn cash, weighing scale, plastic bags and phones were seized. The duo was remanded in police custody till Thursday.
