Mumbai: Six fishermen were rescued after a fishing boat collided with a tug towing platform off Vasai late on Saturday night. The rescue operation for tracing a missing labourer aboard was still underway. The boat, FB Morning Star (IND MH-2-MM-5513), hit 15 nautical miles off Vasai at 1.15 am on Sunday during high sea fishing. Due to the collision, the boat capsized and fishermen onboard fell into the Arabian Sea.
The six fishermen were rescued until Sunday evening while the rescue teams were on the lookout for Baban Pal (42), a labourer, thrown off from the boat into the sea. The search operation began after the incident was reported at 3.50 am on Sunday by Dhanaji Koli, the secretary of the Fishing Association.
According to a Coast Guard official, “The boat reportedly collided with the tug towing platform Triton Liberty. An interceptor vessel Charlie, a Chetak helicopter and an inboard patrol vessel were sent for the rescue. The six fishermen were provided first aid.” Late on Sunday evening, the boats were towed away to Madh island near Marve.The local police, Coast Guards and the disaster management cell have been jointly conducting the operation. The search will continue on Monday.
