NEW DELHI: Just a day ahead of the notification of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for examinations, the Congress on Monday demanded that the aspirants who could not clear previous exams due to abrupt changes in the format and syllabus should get another attempt in 2019.
Its spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi told a press conference that some 2.5 lakh affected aspirants are protesting to get a compensatory attempt to appear in the civil service exam since their four attempts were disturbed by abrupt and frequent alterations in the pattern of the all-India civil service exams after the introduction of Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) in 2011.
She cited three precedents of 1979, 1992 and 2011 when the aspirants were allowed compensatory attempts when big changes happened. She said another chance to the aspirants is also necessary in view of the joblessness hitting the highest in 45 years. She regretted that the IAS vacancies have been also reduced under the Modi govt from an average of 1300 to 782 in 2018.
