BHOPAL: Two Delhi-based sisters, who have launched a startup to promote all-women tours and encourage them to undertake solo trips, have been awarded with ‘Best Travel Writer / Blogger – 2018’ by MP Tourism. The award was handed over by the tourism minister Surender Singh Baghel in a formal function held at Minto hall on Friday.

Himadri Garg is a travel photographer who started her travel journey with her sister Prachi Garg in early 2007. In the past 12 years, the two sisters have travelled to the most remote and unexplored parts of the country. In the year 2010 she decided to take her passion to the next level with her sister Prachi to help other solo women also chase their travel dreams. This eventually led to the birth of their travel start-up.

The co-founder of Ghoomophiro tour planner, Himadri Garg told Free Press, “Actually, we personally experienced that women in our country don’t travel alone. In fact most of parents of our friends didn’t allow them to travel alone. We started solo woman travellers for past one year to inspire women for solo travelling. And we are getting good response. Nearly 2000 women across India and abroad like Europe, Italy, Malaysia, US etc. ”

“We mostly focus on foreign female tourists because to convenience Indian women are quite tough. They have lot of safety issue. But there is no issue with foreign female tourists. They are very ‘Bindass,’ ” she added.

About their Journey, Prachi said, “Basically, we hail from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh but we have been living Delhi for past many years. We belong to business family. Since childhood, we love travelling and used to go for vacation. After completing my schooling, we shifted Delhi for further study. I did graduation from Miranda House, Delhi and MBA from Chennai College. Himadri did MBA from Symbiosis College, Pune.”

“Since beginning we wanted to do something different. And travelling was our passion so we decided to open ‘Ghoomophiro’ tour planner in 2011 with our savings. I did job in an IT company for six years. But I left job due to our passion. We started it with corporate travel,” said Prachi adding that, “it is not an easy task to start new business after leaving good job. But we could able to do so due to support from my parents.”

Babulal Somani awarded

Besides, minister Baghel also presented Indore-based Babulal Somani with ‘Shresth Adenture Tour operator’  award for Somanipuram Adventure park and Resort, Indore. Since Somani was on wheel-chair, the minister came down from stage and conferred the award on him. A magazine ‘Madhya Pradesh Tourism -2018’ was launched on the occasion.
