Mumbai: Commuters and office-goers had to face a problem on the Harbour line on Thursday morning as a problem was reported about the overhead wire between Khandeshwar and Panvel, due to which services between Belapur and Panvel came to a halt. This happened, an hour before the start of peak hour, when the maximum number of commuters rush to their workplace.
The morning peak hour on the suburban network starts around 8 am and lasts till around 11 am.
A Senior Railway official said that there was a problem of power supply between Khandeshwar and Panvel stations, due to which Panvel-bound services were suspended. Sunil Udasi, Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO), CR, said, “Due to an overhead equipment (OHE) problem between Khandeshwar and Panvel, harbour line services are delayed.
Work to resolve the problem has begun.”CR is running special services between Belapur and CSMT, as services beyond Belapur stopped. As the trains were running late, commuters were forced to travel by other modes of transport. Rajesh Khillari, a commuter, said, “Unfortunately, I had to cancel my meeting at 9 am as trains got cancelled and I had to travel by bus, so I reached around 10.30 am.”
Commuters were frustrated as trains are getting delayed on a daily basis, due to which they are suffering. Suraj Pandey, who commutes from Titwala to CSMT station, added, “Actually, there is no point of taking blocks on weekends since trains are getting delayed by over an hour on a daily basis.
However, CR is not even bothered to inform commuters about the problem and as to why trains are getting delayed.”He added that trains only run on time when there is inspection or any senior official is travelling in that train. “Railways only do work in which they get praised and are not bothered to do anything to improve services,” added Pandey.
