Ujjain : Even after the banning the sale of Chinese synthetic string (dor), there is no let-up in the accidents caused by the thread.
In a latest incident, Dinesh, son of Kaluram, a resident of the Dhancha Bhawan area was admitted to the Civil Hospital in a serious condition after his throat was cut by a China made string hanging on Agar Road here on Wednesday. Dinesh received 14 stitches on his throat for the injury. Doctors said his condition is now stable. The incident has once again highlighted the problem due to the use of hazardous Chinese plastic string. Earlier too, there were instances in which local residents suffered injuries while driving two-wheelers by plastic string. The district administration has banned the sale and the use of this string for kite flying in view of these incidents.
While the district administration failed to spread awareness against the banned Chinese string, the police also failed to take strong action against those selling it. This Chinese string is made of metallic/nylon yarn with an abrasive coat of crushed glass, gummed on to it, making it razor-sharp and non-biodegradable. Further, nylon is a good conductor of electricity if it comes in contact with live wire it can cause lethal shock. Often these strings get entangled in the power supply lines and causing faults thus increasing maintenance load for electricity department.
