World Animal Day celebrated

Ujjain : Children in the city conveyed a strong message on the occasion of World Animal Day by enacting a skit on the need to save animals. The play depicting the plight of animals and birds in captivity was staged at the Panchayati Digambar Jain Temple in Freeganj.

Nirbhay Sagar Maharaj, who was present during the programe stressed the need for human beings to adopt a compassionate approach towards animals. In his thought provoking address, he said, animals and birds are the true companions of man and life without them would be practically impossible, while on the other hand they would survive more safely without humans. The World Animal Day, he said, should be marked as a day of penance in this respect.

The day also marks the birthday of Saint Francis, and is dedicated to him.
