The Vikhroli police cracked the Mangaldeep Jewellery robbery case after nine- long months and arrested a mother- son duo in connection with the Rs 77 lakh heist.
The officials stated that the accused is
member of the notorious Shikalkar gang, which is active in Thane.
While the robbed booty is yet to be recovered, the sleuths stated that they are interrogating the accused in connection with the same. Following the daring robbery in May 2011, wherein the accused entered the jewelry shop and after tying and gagging the two employees in broad daylight, escaped with 30kg silver and three kilo gold, the police scanned the CCTV camera footages. An officer of Vikhroli police said,” We had noticed that the accused were wearing masks, however, their hair was tied inside what looked like a turban. Further probe revealed that Sikalkar gang members tie their hair inside the turban and follow the modus involved in Vikhroli robbery.” During the course of the investigation, the sleuths received a tip off about the accused, following which they managed to arrest 35- yearold Gujrat Singh Kalani. Later, in a twist to the incident, the person who allegedly tipped the police was killed by his estranged wife and in laws ( who are related to the arrested accused), after they came to know that he had informed the police. Following Gujrats arrest, the officials also arrested his mother Suraj Kaur Kalani ( 55) for her role is concealing the information and the stolen booty.
