Varsity teachers stage dharna

Ujjain : Teachers across Vikram University (VU) protested in a pen down dharna at varsity premises here on Monday. The government’s “negative attitude” in framing regulations on the service conditions of teachers without consulting with them. The protest was held on a call given by Vikram University Teacher Association (VUTA).

The protesting teachers shouted slogans regarding their demands.

The teachers are determined to carry on an agitation on this issue. The VUTA opposes the kind of quantification of teachers’ activities which the government plans to introduce for their career advancement scheme.

There is a feeling of being let down among the teaching community at VU. SK Mishra, president of VUTA informs, “The government failed to keep its word on consulting VUTA about the proposed regulation before listing the same on the agenda of the commission.

We insist that views of the teaching community of central universities should be taken into account while finalising the regulations.”

The protesting teacher also submitted a memorandum to vice chancellor Prof JL Kaul regarding their demands.
