Ujjain : BJP-led Union government has decided to scrap two major projects, which were to be implemented in lieu of Simhastha Fair-2016.
The projects, a big sewerage disposal project worth Rs 330 crore and Mahakal Part-2 have been scrapped by the Central government. According to sources, the decision was taken in high profile meeting held in Delhi recently. The Union government has refused to allocate funds for the projects. With this, the age-old sewerage lines in the holy city will continue to exist. The Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee under urban infrastructure and governance, JNNURM, on Monday cancelled the approval of about Rs 500 crore to finance the project. Now with the cancellation of projects, the Congress leaders are trying to corner the local BJP administration.
Many Congress leaders accused Narendra Modi government of ignoring Ujjain. Congress leader and corporator Ravi Rai said that the Union government is responsible for the deteriorating conditions of the state and especially the city. He said that during the UPA government, all these projects were passed and were ready to be sanctioned. But, now the BJP government is taking arbitrary decisions and their internal bickering is harming the progress of city.
