Ujjain: Slum dwellers protest outside municipal commissioner’s residence

Ujjain: Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) removed slums located behind the ISKCON Temple at Mahashweta Nagar on Monday. Infuriated slum dwellers on Monday night raised slogans and fell asleep in front of the residence of municipal commissioner and staged protest. As per details available, 16 families have been living in slums behind the ISKCON Temple for the last twelve years and after giving them notice, their settlements were razed by the UMC.

The homeless continued their agitation through the night on Monday and after assurance for alternative arrangements by municipal commissioner Ashish Singh, they went back. According to sources the slum dwellers reinstalled their huts on Tuesday.
