Ujjain: Five members of a familywere killed and others critically injured in a road accident in Ghattiya near zero point on Wednesday night. Ghattiya police reached the spot and rescued the injured. According to police 36-year-old Suresh son of Ratanlal and his family were returning in a Maruti van from Unhel, after attending a marriage. A truck bearing registration number MH-08-W-8226 coming from Jhalawar collided head on with the van bearing registration number MP-13-BA-2937, in which the family was travelling.

The collision was so intense that the van was completely mangled. While five of its passengers died on the spot, three others were critically injured. JCB machines were deployed to separate vehicles. Van’s door had to be cut open to rescue the injured. Ghattiya police station TI Jaishriram Barde told Free Press that it is suspected that truck driver was under the influence of liquor. The truck was carrying green pea to Indore vegetable market, he added.

In the mishap Shobhabai, Janibai, Madhu, Balaram, and Gudia(6-month-old) died on the spot while driver Suresh, Dheeraj and Guddi received serious injuries. After being informed Narwar and Dewasgate police reached the spot. Additional SP Neeraj Pande, SDOP Arvind Tiwari and TI Ghattiya police station Barde too reached the spot. The truck was seized but the driver managed to flee.
