Ujjain: An increase in the support price of crops to the tune of 1.5 times is expected shortly.
Following farmers’ demands that crops be purchased on the basis of a support price, a meeting was held by food commissioner, Faiz Ahmed Kidwai on Monday at the Simhastha fair office, during which it was decided that purchase based on support prices would begin on March 15.
The food commissioner also gave instructions to formulate a plan for the safe storage of crops. According to Kidwai, the sowing area of wheat had been increased by 5 lakh hectares across the state which would result in a huge jump in the production of wheat.
The government has set up 278 purchase centres in the division and weighing machines at all centers will be certified before March 14. In addition, the commissioner passed instructions to clear payments against purchase within one week.
500 trolleys of wheat arrive at Mandi
500 trolleys of wheat arrived at Chimanganj Krishi Upaj Mandi on Monday. During the auction some farmers sold their crops at a lower rate than the support price of 1625 per quintal while some farmers sold for over Rs 1800 per quintal. During the meeting commissioner Ravindra Pastor, managing director of the marketing federation, Gyaneshawar Patil, collector Sanket Bhondve and other senior officials were present.
