Ujjain: Scenes of commotion prevailed for some time at the Mahakaleshwar Temple on Thursday afternoon as contrary to the decision of Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee (MTMC). The policemen and temple employees disallowed the dharshanarthis to enter the garbh-griha (sanctum-sanctorum) during prescribed time limit.
Looking at the growing annoyance among the visiting dharshanarthis of the country, the MTMC in its meeting on Wednesday decided to allow every darshanarthi to the sanctum-sanctorum for limited time period.
Accordingly, the darshanarthis should have been allowed to go close to the Mahakal Jyotirlingam for jalabhishek (pouring pious water) and sparsh (touch) between 11 am to 4 pm (every day except Sundays).
Hundreds of outside darshanarthis had queued inside and outside the temple. Before 11 am, huge rush was seen in the temple, but as the darshan was not allowed from sanctum-sanctorum many of the devotees purchased special darshan passes at the rate of Rs 250 each. Soon after 11 am devotees waiting in the lines for more than two hours lost their cool as they were not allowed to enter Nandi Grih.
They indulged in verbal duel with the policemen and MTMC employees. Slogan rising quickly converted into commotion. MTMC non-government members Deepak Mittal and Ashish Pujari tried to intervene in the matter, but to no avail. The devotees were quite perturbed over non-execution of the MTMC’s decision and absence of effective planning.
