Ujjain: State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) VL Kantarao has claimed that quick and stringent action will be taken over hate speeches and hate messages. “Multi-layer monitoring and action system and execution teams have been formed to check all sorts of attempts to violate the poll code,” he added. Addressing a press conference at the Brahaspati Bhavan, here on Wednesday evening, Kantarao said that the redressal of complaints related to violation of Model Code of Conduct is being taken up receiving the complaints and on the suo-motto basis as well.

He said that recently fake news was posted on social media that anybody can cast his or her vote as- challenge vote even as his or her name is not figured in the electoral rolls. “With the intervention of Election Commission of India, we immediately rectified this issue and if any sort of violation of model code of conduct is made by political parties, political activists, candidates or anybody else we would investigate it through cyber cell and for this complaint in any format can be sent or filed with us,” he added.

‘Regular or urgent works cannot be deferred in the name of poll code’
While responding to the queries of the media persons, Kantarao made it amply clear that none of the directives of the Election Commission of India restricts the government departments to defer their works which may be of regular or urgent nature. He said that any hindrance in such works will be allowed on the pretext of violation of model code of conduct. According to him, a budgetary allocation of Rs 550 crore has been allocated to them for the conduct of Lok Sabha Elections-2019. Likewise, budget of Rs 400 crore was sanctioned for Assembly Elections-2018 against which Rs 300 crore were spent. According to the CEO, about 1 lakh liter illicit liquor and cash amount of Rs 12 crore has been seized so far across the state.

Earlier, CEO VL Kantrarao during a meeting reviewed poll preparations in Ujjain division. He directed that after the last date of applying for new voter ID that is on April 19, collectors should ensure that these EPIC cards are distributed to the eligible applicants by April 30. During the meeting, collectors and SPs of seven districts of the division informed the authorities about their poll preparations.

The CEO expressed satisfaction over the preparations and found them proper for fair, free and peaceful conduct of elections. Prominent among those present in the meeting included ECI’s Madhya Pradesh in-charge (secretary) SB Joshi, State ACEO Sandeep Yadav, IGs Anant Kumar Singh, Yogesh Chaudhari, GG Pandey (all Bhopal), joint director, income tax Prashankt Kumar Mishra, excise commissioner Rajnish Shrivastava (Gwalior), divisional commissioner Ajeet Kumar and IG, Ujjain range, Rakesh Gupta.

The CEO also convened a meeting of all recognised political parties. He informed that arrangements for 3 queues at all polling stations are being made so as to ensure smooth voting. He said on the voting day priority will be given to physically challenged, old aged, pregnant women and women so that they can cast their vote. The talked to the representatives of different political parties one by one and redressed their issues.

During CEO’s tour, several delegations met and submitted memorandum to him. A delegation of SAPAKS Samaj including Arvind Singh Chandel, Nirdosh Nirbhay Pathak and Sanjay Raghuwanshi while furnishing an order of Indore bench of High Court sought proper awareness among public with regard to using NOTA. Likewise, former BJP corporator Prakash Sharma complained that on the pretext of model code of conduct the district administration and Ujjain Municipal Corporation authorities have been neglecting on discharging their duties with regard to fundamental works and issues related to public health.
