Ujjain: State government on Friday evening imposed emergency provisions under Section 52 of the MP University Act, 1973 on Vikram University (VU). Higher education principal secretary Neeraj Mandloi issued a notification in this regard. The notification said, “Whereas on the basis of a report and material which has been made available regarding mismanagement of affairs of Vikram University, the State government is satisfied that a situation has arisen in which the administration of the varsity cannot be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Act without detriment to the interest of the varsity and it is expedient in the interest of the varsity so to do.”
The notification said, “Exercising of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 52 of the Act, the government directs that the provisions of sections 13, 14, 20 to 25, 40, 47, 48, 54 and 67 of the Act shall apply to the varsity from February 15.”
Presently, Prof Bal Krishna Sharma is looking after the charge of vice-chancellor (VC) as full-fledged VC Sheel Sindhu Pandey tendered his resignation some 10 days ago on the pretext of personal reasons to the Governor-cum-Chancellor Anandiben Patel. Pandey’s four year tenure was to end in May, but assuming that he may be terminated in light of various controversies and accusations; he tendered his resignation and joined his parent varsity- Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur on last Monday.
Names doing round amid lobbying
Meanwhile, sources claim that race to become new VC under Section 52 wherein a person can remain on the post reportedly up to four years has reached its acme. A number of aspirants are lobbying hard at Bhopal to grab the VC chair. Name of Prof Nagesh Shinde is doing the rounds and it is reported that former MLA and senior Congress leader Dr Batuk Shankar Joshi was camping at Bhopal on Friday to get his name cleared for the VC post.
