In two separate incidents of tiger attack within ten days, two persons were injured in Umaria district.

While one of them was seriously injured in the attack, the other victim sustained minor injur

ies.

Forest officials are keeping a close watch on the situation.

According to sources, the first incident occurred in Ghunghuti forest area of Umaria where a forest guard was attacked by a tiger. ‘Ten days back, the tiger had killed a cattle in Ghunghuti forest area. To ascertain the cattle kill incident, a team of forest officials and a forest guard have visited the spot. One of the forest guards had reached the spot where the cattle was killed.”The tiger sprang out of the blue and attacked the guard, injuring him seriously. He was admitted to a hospital and is out of danger,’said forest officer of

Umaria, Rakesh Pathak.

The second incident of tiger attack took place in Dhanwahi forest area of the district on Friday. A tiger had allegedly attacked a shepherd when he had gone to graze his cattle. The victim was quite lucky, as he had received only minor injuries.

‘A tiger of Bandhavgarh reserve used to frequent Umaria forest area. It seems that he is making his territory there. As his colour is little brown, he is called by the nick name Bhura,’said a senior officer of Bandhavgarh.

The Umaria forest officials do not exactly know whether the same tiger of Bandhavgarh reserve was involved in the two attacks or it was the tiger, staying in the jungles of Umaria range, which pounded upon these two persons.

Some times back, two young male tigers have killed a watchman in Bandhavgarh tiger reserve after which they were tranquilised and sent to the Van Vihar National Park. Before this, tigers have killed a woman and a man on the outskirts of Bandhavgarh tiger reserve.

FOREST OFFICIALS CAMPING A band of forest officials are camping in Kaliasoth dam area where a tiger had allegedly killed two cattle two days back. So far, the forest officials have not sighted the feline and are keeping a close watch on the area.

The locals have been alerted and asked not to venture out in the evening. The tiger might have come from Kerva forest area connected with Ratapani sanctuary. This is not for the first time that a feline was on the prowl in Kaliasoth dam area. Earlier also, feline movement was reported from this particular area.
