Ujjain : Even after the Western Railway and other zonal railways have introduced festival special trains on several routes across the country to cope with the extra rush of passengers during the ongoing festival season, most of the trains are running full to capacity.
Advance reservation, especially during Diwali, is not available on most of the long- route trains. The festival special trains, a majority of them with sleeper and general class facility, are also overcrowded, say passengers.
As a sizable number of students, part of the industrial work force in the city or those carrying out other skilled or non- skilled professions here, are keen to visit their native places during Diwali, those manning the reservation counters at the railway station, are finding it tough to handle the rush all through the day. The reservation tickets in the “ tatkal” category, which are available just 24 hours prior to the date of journey on select routes, have also become difficult, if not impossible, to get.
Information gathered from railway officials indicates the waiting lists for most of the trains bound for Gujarat, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai.
In many trains even the waiting list is exhausted and there is “ no room” at all. Official at Western railway told that 6 trains will provide extended services during the festive season, similarly extra coaches have been added to trains. 9 Extra trains have been plied on the routes of Surat, Chappra, Lucknow, Mumbai, Bandra, Ahemdabad and Patna. Many students who study city colleges had reached reservation office at Dewas gate but were upset to see people queuing up from night, so as to get reservation ticket.
