Ujjain:Coming out of the passive mode after a deep silence of months, Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) indicates that illegal portion of multi-storeyed buildings which have been developed at several areas of the city are likely to be removed. As UMC took action over Mittal Building at Mahakal Ghati Square and removed some of its illegal portions by using explosives on Saturday, it is now clear that other illegal buildings’ portions will be hammered soon. UMC may take action against illegal buildings located in Freeganj on Monday.

According to sources, UMC is all set to take major action against some multistoried buildings within next few days. If required, it can use explosives for removing the illegal portions of the buildings. Notably, urbanisation in the city has been very fast and several multi-storyed buildings and complexeshave been erected for commercial purposes by some well established builders and land mafias. There are several buildings which remainedin limelight as they  are considered illegal. Sources said UMC had kept three buildings of Freeganj area in priority list and action might be taken against these buildings on Monday.

Some of the UMC engineers shielded builders and prevented action over illegal buildings. Buildersseem to be scared after action was taken over Mittal Building and are trying to settle down the matters at any cost. There are people withoutmuch knowledge about property construction who have invested their lots of money. Nobody wants to purchase the flats and commercialshops in illegal buildings. There are some cases which are under consideration in courts.

Despite frequent efforts of Free Press, Municipal Commissioner NS Parmar was not available for comment.
