Ujjain : Unknown thieves targeted Shwetambar Jain temple of Danigate area on late Tuesday and decamped with silver ornaments weighing around 2 kilograms, of the deities.
The incident was reported on Wednesday, when the temple priest Praveen opened the temple gates in the morning, and found the worship items scattered inside with 4 silver umbrellas ( chhatra) missing from the platform. The preist immediately reported the incident to locals and devotees.
The community members informed Mahkal Police, who rushed to the spot and started investigation. The incident is a setback for the community as the security system of the city has failed to protect Jain temples, which are being constantly targeted by thieves for the precious metals like gold and silver.
Community members said the police have yet not been able to recovers idols of Laxmi Nagar Jain temple, which were stolen 4 months ago. FSL team was also called on the spot for fingerprints and possible clues of the suspects. The police said the incident happened between 12 am and 4 am. It was not known whether CCTV cameras were installed at the temple or not.
